Indonesia, 2026 Economic Policy to Focus on Resilience

Jakarta: PonteSud – News Desk

The direction of Indonesia’s economic and fiscal policy strategies for 2026 will center on strengthening national resilience, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has said.

“When we are unable, and will never be able, to control global conditions, then national resilience must be enhanced,” she stated during the 21st Plenary Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Tuesday.

She explained that the main focus of the 2026 policies will include achieving food and energy self-sufficiency, improving the quality of education, accelerating national industrialization, and meeting other strategic objectives.

These priorities, she added, form the foundation for strengthening national defense and resilience amid an increasingly multipolar and unpredictable world.

Indrawati emphasized that economic development cannot rely solely on market mechanisms to build resilience. While the government plays a vital role, it should not be the central actor in the economy; private sector participation remains essential.

Government intervention, she said, should be proportional – focused on correcting market failures and promoting justice, social equity, and public welfare.

“The core principle is to achieve the greatest good for the greatest number,” Indrawati said. “Government policies must benefit as many people as possible.”

Through this approach, the government aims to prevent power from concentrating in the hands of a few and ensure that economic growth translates into widespread prosperity.

According to the minister, President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to an open economic system and an active foreign policy, emphasizing that the country remains a non-aligned nation that upholds its sovereignty and does not side with any power bloc.
