Cairo: News Room – Anita Bosman

Africa, its progress, the solidarity of its peoples, its unity, and the pride of its youth, alongside Egypt’s strength, leadership, and growing cooperation with Namibia were the focal points of an important diplomatic-Media meeting held in Cairo yesterday.
The discussion brought together His Excellency Dr. Vilio H. Hifindaka, Ambassador of the Republic of Namibia to Egypt, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Eritrea, Kuwait, and Yemen, and Mr. Ashraf Gaber, The Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of AfricUpdate Magazine. Their meeting, which took place over a lunch at the Greek Club in Cairo, explored critical issues related to African development, unity, and potential collaborations in investment, and media engagement.

The meeting, held over a lengthy lunch, touched on key issues concerning the African continent, prospects for bilateral cooperation, and the potential role of AfricUpdate and Celta Media Group in promoting investment opportunities in Namibia.

Namibian Appreciation for Egypt’s Role in Africa and Hope for Expanded Cooperation

During the discussion, Ambassador Hifindaka expressed sincere gratitude and appreciation for Egypt’s effective role in the African continent, emphasizing Egypt’s long-standing support for African causes and its unwavering commitment to promoting stability and development across numerous African nations. He underscored Namibia’s eagerness to bolster ties with Egypt in all fields – particularly development projects, infrastructure, and investment – highlighting the vast wealth and immediate investment potential of his homeland. Namibia, whose area is nearly equal to that of Egypt, boasts immense arable lands and a population of just under 3 million.

The meeting explored the long-standing African dream of continental unity – a vision that predated the establishment of the European Union by many years, yet has struggled to materialize due to various complexities. Both parties agreed on the urgency of rekindling this ambition and working toward meaningful economic and political integration across Africa.

The discussion also delved into the critical role of the media in fostering relationships among African nations – not only at the government level but also among peoples. Gaber shared AfricUpdate’s vision of supporting such ambitions through well-researched content, academic studies, and conferences that spotlight cooperation opportunities and developmental initiatives within the continent.

Namibia: A Nation of Natural Beauty and Untapped Wealth

The dialogue highlighted Namibia’s unique qualities – a peaceful country that gained independence in 1990, blessed with breathtaking vistas overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and endowed with abundant natural resources. The nation is rich in uranium and diamonds, with fertile lands that position it among the world’s top producers of premium-quality beef.

Politically and socially, Namibia enjoys high levels of freedom in elections, the press, and expression. Its record in empowering women is exemplary: the President of the Republic is Her Excellency Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the Vice President is HE Lucia Witbooi, and eight women currently serve as cabinet ministers.

New Horizons for Future Collaboration

The meeting reaffirmed the strong and growing relationship between Egypt and Namibia, paving the way for further collaboration in investment, development, and infrastructure. It laid down a clear vision for fostering African integration through impactful media and forward-looking initiatives that serve the continent’s peoples and aspirations for a more prosperous future.
