Cai Tongjuan, Director of the Macroeconomic Research Department at the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, Renmin University of China, spoke in an exclusive interview with CGTN, a partner of TV BRICS, about the significance of the upcoming BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
“This is an important international event that holds great significance for deepening cooperation among BRICS countries, strengthening global economic governance, advancing humanitarian exchanges, and jointly responding to global challenges,” the expert emphasised.
She added that the summit will help expand trade and investment. Participants will discuss joint projects in infrastructure and industrial modernisation, which will serve as a new driving force for economic growth.
Cai Tongjuan also highlighted the importance of financial cooperation. This year’s summit will pay special attention to the development of alternative payment systems, such as Russia’s Financial Messaging System (SPFS) and China’s Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS).
The expert stated that BRICS countries will continue to work on free trade, investment, and energy cooperation. This will help stimulate the exchange of goods and services among member states. She also noted that the summit will help establish a mechanism to ensure food security and deepen cooperation in renewable energy, mineral extraction, and nuclear energy.
Cai Tongjuan named the development of scientific and technological cooperation as one of the priorities, particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and new energy technologies. She believes that strengthening financial and economic interaction will help boost trade and investment, revitalise the economy, and ensure the sustainable development of BRICS countries.
