The Environment Agency, Abu Dhabi, has become the first regulatory authority in the United Arab Emirates to receive Carbon Neutrality Certification for a second time.
Experts claimed that this recognition highlights UAE efforts to reduce its environmental footprint through comprehensive carbon management strategies. The agency assessed its greenhouse gas emissions -including energy use in buildings, chilled water consumption, vehicle and generator fuel use, and waste generation.
The strategy includes transitioning its vehicle fleet to hybrid models, upgrading all lighting systems to LED with motion sensors, installing smart water devices, and adopting environmentally friendly air-conditioning technologies.
The agency is also integrating solar panels into all new projects and adhering to LEED Zero Carbon design standards to further reduce emissions and energy consumption.
According to the source, by achieving carbon neutrality for a second time, the agency sets a national benchmark for public institutions and encourages both government and private entities to adopt sustainable practices and contribute to the UAE’s broader net-zero ambitions.
