Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has said that both Malaysia and Indonesia support the Palestinian people’s struggle for independence and agree on the need to push for everlasting peace in the Middle East.
While issuing a joint statement with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on Friday, Anwar condemned Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, and highlighted the importance of resolving the conflict.
He said that Malaysia has consistently and firmly denounced Israel’s actions in Gaza, which violate international laws. It has also been steadfast in its support for the Palestinians’ right to live in an independent and sovereign state, he added.
He then reaffirmed Malaysia’s shared stance with Indonesia on the need to push for peace in the Middle East, including resolving the Israel-Iran conflict.
Most importantly, Malaysia and Indonesia need to promote collective international endeavors to broker a peaceful end to global conflicts.
The Malaysian leader made an official visit to Indonesia on Friday to strengthen bilateral ties. Prabowo held a formal state reception for Anwar at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Friday afternoon.
The two leaders arrived at the palace in the same vehicle and walked side by side to a special podium, where they stood while the national anthems of both countries were played, followed by a 21-gun salute.
They then proceeded along a blue carpet laid across the palace courtyard to inspect the ceremonial honor guard.
